Ginger Root Extract

Ginger, Zingiber officinale Roscoe, family Zingiberaceae, is a perennial herb cultivated across tropical and subtropical Asia. Its rhizome has been documented in Ayurvedic and Chinese materia medica for more than two thousand five hundred years and appears in the European Medicines Agency herbal monograph on Zingiberis rhizoma. The extract used in LUCID is a hydroalcoholic preparation of the dried rhizome, drug-to-extract ratio approximately 20:1, standardised to a minimum 5 percent total gingerols by HPLC, with 6-gingerol as the principal marker. The extract presents as a fine yellow-brown powder, characteristic pungent aromatic odour, hygroscopic. Each lot arrives with a full identity, purity, marker assay, pesticide-residue and heavy-metal panel per European Pharmacopoeia limits. We elected to include ginger at 50 mg on a 20:1 extract basis rather than as a raw rhizome powder for one reason: reproducibility of the marker profile across lots. Raw rhizome powder varies in gingerol content by a factor of three to five between harvests, latitudes, and drying methods. The 5 percent standardised extract stabilises the compositional identity of what the reader receives. The 50 mg calibration is modest by design: the intent is compositional coherence within the adaptogenic-support band, not the pharmacological doses studied for other indications in the literature. We are not aiming at a claim. We are aiming at a defined article, present in the composition at a declared, verifiable mass.

The rhizome is harvested and dried in Kerala, southern India, at cooperative farms operating under EU Organic Regulation 2018/848 equivalence certification. Extraction is performed at an EU GMP-certified facility in the European Union. Each incoming lot is re-verified at Eurofins Antwerp for marker assay, pesticide-residue profile, and heavy-metal panel before release to encapsulation. Traceability is preserved from harvest lot to LUCID batch.
