Rhodiola Rosea
A perennial from the Arctic circle, standardised to the 3:1 signature.
Rhodiola rosea, family Crassulaceae, is a perennial flowering plant native to cold high-altitude regions of the northern hemisphere: Siberia, Scandinavia, the Alps, the Rocky Mountains. Its rhizome and root have been documented in the pharmacopoeia of the former USSR since 1969, and appear in the European Medicines Agency herbal monograph on Rhodiolae roseae rhizoma et radix. The extract used in LUCID is a hydroalcoholic preparation of the dried rhizome, drug-to-extract ratio approximately 4:1, standardised to a minimum 3 percent rosavins and 1 percent salidrosides by HPLC. This 3:1 ratio of rosavins to salidrosides is the reference marker profile used across the published academic record and is the signature demanded by the Russian State Pharmacopoeia. The extract presents as a fine brown-red powder, characteristic rose-like odour, hygroscopic. Each lot carries a full identity, purity, marker assay, and pesticide-residue panel.
We elected the 3:1 marker profile because it is the only one for which a coherent academic record exists (Panossian et al., 2010, Phytomedicine; Ishaque et al., 2012, BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine). Extracts standardised only to salidrosides, or to total polyphenols, are cheaper on the raw-material market but do not correspond to the article that was studied. The 300 mg calibration reflects the daily dose range used in the referenced trials, 200 mg to 400 mg, chosen at the mid-band because the LUCID ritual is a single morning intake, and because Rhodiola is one of four plant-derived actives whose combined weight must remain proportionate within the three-capsule format. We did not chase the higher dose to appear generous. We calibrated to the tested dose. That is a colder decision, and the correct one.
The extract is prepared from Rhodiola rosea rhizomes wild-harvested and cultivated in the Altai and Sayan ranges of southern Siberia, then extracted at a EU GMP-certified facility. Wild-harvest is regulated under CITES since 2023 for certain provenances; our supplier operates under quota. Marker assay is verified in-house by HPLC and re-verified by Eurofins Antwerp on each incoming lot. Pesticide-residue and heavy-metal panels align with European Pharmacopoeia limits. Full traceability from harvest lot to LUCID batch is preserved.
